Junior Elliot Amundson scored in the 84th minute to lift the visiting Tommie men's soccer team to a 3-2 comeback victory over St. John's in MIAC play on a wet Wednesday in Collegeville.
Freshman Brett Day and Amundson each had a goal and an assist for St. Thomas (9-5-1 overall, 5-2 MIAC), which moved into second place in the conference with three games to play.
St. Thomas has beaten St. John's in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1990 and 1991.
The Tommies, who have won five of their last six games, moved a step closer to securing their third sonsecutive MIAC playoff trip.
The loss ended the playoff hopes for SJU (5-7-2, 1-5-1). The Johnnies scored twice in a four-minute mid second-half span to take a 2-1 lead.
But Reid Moser-Bleil tied the match in the 76th minute -- the second header off the same corner kick.
Eight minutes later, Mike Hutton assisted Amundson, who scored his second game-winning goal of the MIAC season.
UST had a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Carlos Castelan was in goal all 90 minutes for the win.
The Tommies play Saturday night at Macalester (7:30 p.m.).
