Sophomore Reid Moser-Bleil's scored his first collegiate goal -- the game winner 4:40 into overtime -- as host St. Thomas (4-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) shaded St. John's (4-1, 0-1) Wednesday in St. Paul in the MIAC men's soccer opener for both teams.

The Tommies were 0-3-1 vs. St. Paul in recent meetings, and hadn't beat the Johnnies in St. Paul since 1999.

The Johnnies (4-1, 0-1) had all the momentum in the last 20 minutes of regulation and tied the game on a late goal. But the Tommies collected themselves, and Moser-Bleil took a pass in the center of the field from Elliot Amundson and drilled a 45-foot rocket shot into the top left corner. That secured the Tommies' second overtime victory over an unbeaten team in four days. On Sunday, Andy Gikling's goal in the 109th minute kept UST edge 4-0 Oberlin by a 3-2 score.

UST scored in the 15th minute with Kyle Mader's headerAction pic off a rebound, assisted by Colin White.

With St. John's 31-year head coach Pat Haws working his 500th game, the Johnnies turned up the pressure in the second-half and collected a tying score on Levi Lowell's header in the 87th minute. SJU had one another good scoring chance in the final 30 seconds but sent an errant shot high over the goal.

The Johnnies attacked all second half, but UST goalie Carlos Castelan made three leaping saves or deflections to keep SJU off the scoreboard. In the closing moments, Castelan had a collision away from the goal and Lowell scored the tying goal, assisted by Brian Horst.

Lucas Nelson played all 94:40 in goal and had six saves for SJU. Castelan played all 94:40 and had eight saves.

St. Thomas is home again for two matches this weekend -- on Saturday the Tommies face Bethel (1 p.m.), and on Sunday they play St. Scholastica (noon).
