Men's Hockey loses 4-1 at St. Olaf

St. Thomas outshot St. Olaf 24-16 but surrendured three third-period goals and lost 4-1 Friday night at St. Olaf in MIAC men's hockey play. The loss, coupled with Hamline's 4-1 win over St. John's, damages the Tommies' title hopes and chances to host a playoff semifinal game.
The Tommies need a Hamline tie or loss Saturday afternoon at St. John's, and a Saturday night win over St. Olaf to get a share of the title and the top seed. Bethel is finished with 23 points; Hamline is now at 22 and UST is at 21. If Hamline and the Toms both win Saturday, the Pipers will be outright conference champs for the first time in 60 seasons, but UST will be the No. 2 seed.
UST tied the score late in the first period on Tom Knutson's power-play goal. After a scoreless second period, St. Olaf scored three times in an 8:50 span of the final period to pull away.
St. Olaf was eliminated from the playoffs with Gustavus' 6-1 win Friday at home vs. Concordia.
