Volleyball gets 3-0 sweep of No. 24-rated Gusties

No. 6-ranked St. Thomas hit .246 and posted a 3-0 victory over No. 24-ranked Gustavus in MIAC volleyball play Friday night at UST's Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies (16-1 overall, 4-0 MIAC) won 25-15, 25-11, 29-27 to push their conference winning streak to 18 and their season win streak to 15. UST is also 12-1 on its home court the last two seasons.

UST pulled away to take the first set, 25-15, then broke to a 10-0 lead in set two en route to a 25-11 win. The Toms led set three 24-19 before the Gusties (15-3, 3-2) scored five consecutive points to knot the score. The Tommies eventually prevailed 29-27.

For UST, senior Katie Kremer had 31 digs and surpassed 2,200 on her career. Kremer now has 2,220 digs in 403 career games.

Kyley Crotty had 15 kills and 11 digs; Emily Foster had 41 assists and 12 digs; Carlie Waibel had 10 kills and nine digs; Alesha Nelson had 10 kills; Katie McCaffey added nine kills; and DeJurnett Prioleau had six blocks.

For Gustavus, Bridget Burtzel had 26 assists and 13 digs, Emily Klein had 14 digs and Angela Ahrendt had eight kils and three blocks.

St. Thomas is home Saturday to face St. Catherine (3 p.m.).
