Volleyball pulls out four-set win, gets playoff spot

Senior All-American Katie McCaffrey had 19 kills, hit.349 and added four blocks to lead No. 6-ranked St. Thomas to a four-set win over visiting St. Mary's in MIAC volleyball play Wednesday night at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (22-2 overall, 7-0 MIAC) won 25-15, 25-18, 25-27, 27-25 and secured a berth into the six-team conference playoffs. St. Thomas is 22-0 vs. conference opponents over the last two seasons.
St. Mary's (15-10, 3-4) had a four-match win streak halted.
The Toms led the third set 24-21 before the Cardinals rallied to win and force a fourth set. St. Mary's led 23-20 in the fourth set before the Tommies answered with the clinching points. McCaffrey had four kills in the final run.
For the Tommies, Katie Kremer had 39 digs; Emily Foster had 58 assists, eight kills, nine digs and two blocks; Carlie Waibel had 18 digs and eight kills; Kyley Crotty had 12 kills and 18 digs; Molly Staton had 16 digs; Alesha Nelson had 10 kills and three blocks; and DeJurnett Prioleau had seven kills.
The Toms are idle until Oct. 24 when they face Macalester.
