at So. Maine (W), January 05, 2008

Junior Jackie Carroll had two goals to lead St. Thomas to a 5-1 victory over the upset-minded Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's ice hockey game Saturday in Gorham, Maine.

The Tommies (10-2-0) scored all five goals over the last 23:00. They won the final two games of their three-game eastern swing. The Huskies (3-6), were playing their first game since Dec. 9.

Southern Maine grabbed a 1-0 lead in the final seconds of the first period when sophomore defenseman Erica Robertson intercepted a clearing pass, moved to the slot and beat St. Thomas rookie goalie Kristen Elliott over the left shoulder.

The Huskies kept the Tommies off the board on the outstanding goaltending of junior Emily Barrett (34 saves) until late in the second period. The Tommies capitalized on a defensive zone turnover to equalize at 17:26 as senior Ashley Reinhardt scored an unassisted goal. Carroll netted the eventual game winner 40 seconds later, converting from Reinhardt and sophomore Jamie Hollway.

The Tommies added three unanswered goals in the final period to pull away. Carroll scored her second of the game, unassisted, off a USM turnover at 4:39. Sophomore Kara Ledel found the net at 8:44, and sophomore Jill Kobow closed the scoring with a power-play goal at 18:51.

UST freshman Kristen Elliott finished with 11 saves and improved to 2-0 on the season.

St. Thomas is off until January 16 when it travels to UW-River Falls.
