Men's Hockey wins, alone again in first place

Sophomore Tyler Chestnut stopped 25 shots and recorded his third shutout of the season as the host Tommies (12-3-1 overall, 6-1 MIAC) moved back into sole possession of the conference lead with a 3-0 win over the Gusties (8-9-1, 5-4) Friday night in MIAC men's hockey play in Mendota Heights.
No. 6-ranked St. Thomas ran its home unbeaten streak to seven (6-0-1). Senior Nick Pernula had an empty-net goal and added two assists, and Andrew Panchenko and Tom Knutson had first-period goals. Nate Ryan also had two assists and ran his consecutive scoring streak to nine games.
Hamline tied St. Olaf 2-2 and fell one point behind UST in the conference race.
Gustavus went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Gusties were unable to score on a two-man advanatge for 70 seconds, and failed to convert on a breakaway chance in the second period.
Matt Lopes stopped 28 of 30 shots for the Gusties.
St. Thomas plays Saturday night at Gustavus.
