Late trey gives Women's Basketball close win

Junior guard Chelsea Wirtz sank a 3-point basket with :07 to play to break a 52-52 tie and lift the Tommies past the host Cardinals, 55-52, in MIAC women's basketball play Wednesday night in Winona.
The Tommies (11-4 overall, 10-2 MIAC), who played their second game in a row without injured guard Sheena Porter-Wrzos, trailed 27-20 at halftime. They are back alone in first place as St. Benedict lost at Concordia-Moorhead. Those teams are now one game back at 9-3 in the MIAC.
Jessica Katch had 14 points, five assists and four steals, and DeJurnett Prioleau had 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Becky Theisen had five points and nine rebounds in her first college start. UST had made just 1-of-11 from 3-point range before Wirtz' winning shot. They also had a 46-31 rebounding advantage.
Stephanie Ayers had 15 points and Jess Weisbrod had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (3-12, 2-10).
St. Thomas, which played its second game in a row without injured guard Sheena Porter-Wrzos, is home Saturday to face St. Olaf (1 p.m.)
