Freshman guard Alex Healy scored 15 points and helped the host Tommies roll up 57 bench points in Wednesday's 100-49 victory over St. Mary's in MIAC men's basketball play at UST's Schoenecker Arena. St. Thomas remained in a tie for first place with Gustavus atop the MIAC standings.
St. Thomas (13-3 overall, 9-2 MIAC), which ran its MIAC home win streak to 28, had nobody play more than 20 minutes and all 15 players scored at least one basket. UST hit the 100-point mark for just the second time in eight seasons as it shot 57% from the field, had only 12 turnovers and outrebounded the Cardinals 43-24.
The Cardinals (1-15, 1-10) led just once at 7-5. The Toms answered with a 15-2 run and went on to lead 46-23 at halftime. A 16-2 second-half run built the cushion to 62-28 with 15:00 to play.
The Tommies' Joe Scott chipped in 14 points, freshman Anders Halvorsen had 11 points, Lonnie Robinson scored nine, and B.J. Viau had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Brett Tuma and Josh Peltier each had five assists.
