Men's Hockey tops Johnnies, 5-2

Senior Nate Ryan had two goals and two assists and the No. 4-ranked Tommies (11-2-1 overall, 5-0-0 MIAC) ran their conference regular-season win streak to 14 with Friday night's 5-2 men's hockey victory over the Johnnies (6-8-2, 2-3-2) at Saint Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.
Tyler Chestnut stopped 23 of 25 shots for St. Thomas, which remained atop the conference standings. Nick Pernula and Andrew Panchenko each had a goal and an assist and Adam Davis had three assists, all on power-play goals.
Mike Wallgren had a short-handed goal late in the first period to cut the UST lead to 2-1. Gabriel Harren scored 37 second into period two to trim the deficit to 3-2. But Ryan scored two later in the second period as UST took control.
The teams close the weekend series Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at St. Cloud State's arena.
