Early goal fuels Men's Soccer win at Augsburg

The St. Thomas men's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with Saturday night's 3-0 victory at Augsburg.
Senior Joe Voeller had a goal and two assists, senior Thomas Gjervold had a goal and an assist; and Henry Nwadula added an insurance goal for the Tommies (5-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 MIAC). Senior Dan Hutton was in goal for his second shutout of the season.
Gjervold scored in the third minute, Voeller tallied in the 35th minute, and Nwadula scored in the 48th minute.
Augsburg (6-3, 2-1), an MIAC playoff qualifier last season, had a three-game win streak halted.The Auggies were 5-0 at home coming into the game and had won 13 of its last 15 games on campus. These teams tied 0-0 in 2005 and 1-1 in 2006.
St. Thomas plays again Sunday at home vs. regionally-ranked UW-Whitewater at noon on UST's South Field. Whitewater (6-1) has won five in a row and has outscored foes 26-0 in that stretch. All six of the Warhawks' wins have been shutouts.
