Softball runs win streak to seven

Junior Maria Bye struck out nine and allowed one run and five hits to lead No. 1-ranked St. Thomas to a 5-1 victory over Tufts (Mass.) in Thursday softball play at the Sun West Tournament.??
Tufts (6-2), a 28-win team last season, had a five-game win streak halted. Tufts has tourney wins this week over 2006 NCAA College World Series team Williams (14-0) and No. 6-ranked Chapman (12-6).??
The Tommies (13-2), who ran their win streak to eight, had another game vs. Doane (Neb.) cancelled. They will play three games on Friday to wrap up the trip.??
Kaity Wightman went 2-for-2 with an RBI single and Carrie Embree and Steph Moores each had a double. Embree ran her hitting streak to 10 games and now has 24 hits and 19 runs in 15 games.??
Bye improved to 9-1 and has 90 strikeouts in 61 innings.
