Joe Scott's 3-point basket with 16 seconds left tied the game at 70-70. After a Mac time out, point guard Abe Woldeslassie drove the lane and dished off to Jerry Krause, who made the winning layup.
For UST, Scott scored 20 points and David Baker and Anders Halvorsen each scored 10 points. UST shot 55% from the field but missed five consecutive shots in the last 4:10.
Senior Tom Conboy had a game-high 28 points for Macalester, which is now alone in first place in the conference at 3-0 with four teams (Carleton, Gustavus, UST, Hamline) with one defeat. The Scots had lost six in a row and 15 of the previous 17 games vs. St. Thomas.
