W, 3-2
at St. Scholastica, November 02, 2007

Junior Todd Alexander scored in the final three minutes to break a 2-2 tie and propel the St. Thomas men's hockey team to a 3-2 season-opening victory over St. Scholastica in non-conference play Friday night in Duluth.

Junior transfer Adam Davis scored two goals, senior All-American Nick Pernula scored two assists, and sophomore transfer goalie Tyler Chestnut stopped 21 of 23 shots in goal for the Tommies (1-0).

Chestnut and his teammates helped kill off all five Saints' power plays, and UST converted just 1-of-9 on power plays.

The Saints (0-2) jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals in the first and second periods. But Davis' second goal of the second period on the power play tied the match.

Alexander added the game-winner at 17:29 of the third. UST was 1-of-9 on power plays.

UST plays Saturday night at UW-Superior, and opens its home season with games Nov. 9-10 at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
