Mike Butterworth's goal 2:07 into sudden-death overtime gave visiting Gustavus a 1-0 victory over St. Thomas in MIAC men's soccer in St. Paul.
The Gusties (14-3-1 overall, 9-1 MIAC) shared the conference title with Carleton (8-0-2), a 2-1 winner over St. Olaf. The Tommies (11-4-3, 6-1-3) took their first MIAC loss and placed third in the final standings.
Second-seed third-seed Gustavus will host St. Thomas Wednesday at 3 p.m. in St. Peter in the MIAC playoff semifinals. Top-seed Carleton will play host to fourth-seed St. Olaf on Wednesday in another rematch from today. The winners play Saturday in the conference finals
The Tommies played without MIAC co-scoring leader Thomas Gjervold, who was injured in practice on Friday.
UST hasn't scored a goal vs. the Gusties since the first minute of their 2001 meeting -- and is now 0-6-1 in that span vs. Gustavus.
