Schnettler on fire in Toms' win

Senior guard Bryan Schnettler scored a career-high 33 points as he sank 9-of-12 shots from 3-point range as No. 6-ranked St. Thomas (16-2 overall, 12-1 MIAC) ran its home conference win streak to 13 with Wednesday night's 90-71 men's basketball victory over Hamline.
The Toms improved to 28-0 all-time vs. Hamline at Schoenecker Arena. They remained in a share of the conference lead with St. John's, a five-point home victor over Carleton.
Schnettler's nine treys were his career single-game high and one shy of the UST record set 20 seasons ago by Curt Kietzer. He broke the Tommies' career record of 250 and sits 21 shy of the MIAC record of 277 held by Macalester grad Patrick Russell.
The Toms raced to a 12-0 lead and the Pipers never pulled closer than six thereafter. UST shot 70% in the second half and 65% on the game (35-of-54). Mike Keating had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Isaac Rosefelt added 15 points and nine rebounds. Lonnie Robinson and Brett Tuma each had six assists.
Sophomore forward Tony Thrasher had 30 points for Hamline, which shot 53% from the field. Freshman Brad Brake had 10 of his 12 points in the second half and soph Jon DeRock had 10 points and five assists.
Hamline was outrebounded 32-17. Senior center Kyle Foster (12,7 ppg, 7.9 rpg.) was on the bench in uniform but did not play.
The Toms, now 8-1 in January, play Saturday at Macalester (1 p.m.) and return home Jan. 31 to play Carleton.
