Toms cruise in second half

The St. Thomas men's basketball team used an 18-4 mid-game run to break open a close game as the Toms pulled away for a 73-46 victory over host St. Mary's in MIAC play Saturday in Winona.
Mike Keating had 19 points, Bryan Schnettler had 13 points, Isaac Rosefelt had 10 points and 13 rebounds and Lonnie Robinson scored 10 points.
The Toms (14-2 overall, 10-1 MIAC) remain one game behind St. John's in the MIAC race. The Johnnies used a game-closing 9-0 run in the final 1:40 to win 78-72 at Concordia-Moorhead and stay atop the MIAC at 11-0.
The Tommies secured a winning season with nine regular-season games left and topped the Cardinals for the 39th consecutive time dating back to Jan. 1988. They improved to 6-1 in January, with four road victories.
UST scored the last four points of the first half and used a 14-4 run in the first 3:00 of the second half to lead 51-34.
St. Thomas plays Monday night at St. Olaf (5:45 p.m.) and is home Wednesday to face Hamline (5:45 p.m.).
