Women's Basketball tops Cardinals 86-35

Senior guard Melissa Keiser had a game-high 14 points and the St. Thomas women's basketball team shot 51% from the field and helped force 35 turnovers in Wednesday night's 86-35 victory over visiting St. Mary's in MIAC play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (2-2 overall, 1-0 MIAC) closed the first half with a 17-7 run to take a 38-22 halftime lead. They used a 28-8 run to start the second half and helped hold the Cards (2-2, 0-1) to just four second-half field goals.
Keiser hit 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Freshman guard Sheena Porter-Wrzos had 10 points, five steals and five assists, and soph forward Jessica Katch had 10 points, six rebounds and four steals. Freshman Andi Olson scored 10 points in nine minutes off the bench. The Toms made 15-of-19 at the foul line and outrebounded the Cards 41-33.
Kelly Tanke scored 11 points and Alyse Coates scored nine for SMU, which shot 13% in the second half and 24% on the game (12-of-51).
The Toms host St. Olaf Saturday (3 p.m.).
