Senior guard Melissa Keiser had 17 points and four steals and soph forward Jessica Katch had 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Tommie women's basketball team pulled away for a 70-51 victory over St. Olaf in Saturday's MIAC play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (3-2 overall, 2-0 MIAC) closed the game with a 20-6 run in the final 9:00, and remained unbeaten early in the MIAC race.
The Toms missed 10 of their first 12 3-point attempts, then made 5-of-8 from 3-point range in the last 21:00. They outrebounded the Oles 41-29 and helped forced 25 turnovers.
The Toms rallied from an early 12-2 deficit and took the lead for good with a 9-1 run that built a 36-32 halftime lead. A 9-3 run to open the second half provided some breathing room, but the Oles pulled within four on Holly Grimsrud's 3-pointer. Melissa Gotchnik scored seven during the clinching 20-6 run.
St. Olaf (0-5, 0-2) shot 28% from the field in the second half and 37% on the game (16-of-44). Holly Grimsrud and Kelsey Oja each scored nine points and Christina Sampson scored eight for St. Olaf.
