Infielders Michelle Wong and Kristi Huegel were among 46 players named to the 2005 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-American Softball team.

Hamline senior Amanda Gage was the other MIAC player honored.

Wong (SR-Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins) was a repeat honoree and made first team at second base, while Huegel makes the team for the first time as a second-team shortstop. Huegel was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American last year. Both Wong and Huegel are on the national ballot for 2005 Academic All-American consideration.

Wong (3.22 gpa in Health Promotion) and Huegel (3.79 gpa in Business/Accounting) have helped the Tommies to a 155-25 record in their four-year era (20-3 postseason) with the 2004 NCAA title, three region championships and five MIAC regular-season or playoff titles.

Huegel made the 2004 Academic All-America team. In 172 career games she has 185 hits, 118 runs, 143 RBI, 39 doubles, three triples and 18 home runs. This season, she has no errors in 66 defensive chances and in 45 games is batting .348 with 48 hits, 40 RBI, 41 runs, 13 doubles, five home runs, 12 walks and 12 stolen bases. She also made first-team all-region and honorable mention All-MIAC.

Wong was a repeat honoree as MIAC Player of the Year as she's led the Tommies to a 49-1 conference record in the last two seasons. Wong is the conference career hits leader with 236 and is a .410 hitter in 177 games. She also has 100 stolen bases, 171 runs, 88 RBI and 31 extra-base hits. This season she has 60 hits and is batting .417 with 48 runs, 23 RBI, 34 steals and has struck out only once in 160 plate appearances.

Gage, a second baseman from Forest Lake, Minn., was a repeat All-American. A four-time All-MIAC first team selection, Gage ended her career as Hamline's all-time leading hitter with 217 hits -- second on the MIAC all-time list to Wong. She finished sixth in the MIAC with a .446 batting average (33-for-74) in 22 conference games. She was second in slugging percentage (.770), sixth in on-base percentage (.512), and third in runs scored (26). She led the league in doubles with eight and was third in home runs with four. Gage also drove in 13 runs.
