Toms get road shutout of Auggies
Jake Barkley's 81-yard scoring run and some big defensive plays let the Tommies (3-2 overall, 3-1 MIAC) post a 16-0 victory over Augsburg (1-4, 1-3) Saturday in Minneapolis.
It was UST's first shutout win in Coach Don Roney's three seasons and the first shutout win at Augsburg since 1978. The Toms have won 28 of the last 30 meetings vs. the Auggies in the series.
Barkley finished with 130 rushing yards to reach 797 season yards over five games.
Sean O'Leary's third-period end zone sack resulted in a safety and a 9-0 lead. A blocked punt by Conor Casey in the fourth-quarter led to UST's final TD.
The Toms play at St. Olaf next Saturday then host Macalester Oct. 21. St. John's and Bethel (4-0) led the MIAC, one game ahead of Gustavus and UST (3-1).
