Walt Kiesling graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1926. As a student, Kiesling was named the 1923 All-State left tackle, and was a captain of the 1925 team. After graduating, Kiesling went on to play pro football for five teams (Duluth Eskimos, Pottsville Maroons, Chicago Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers). He had a 34-year NFL career as a player, assistant coach, and finally a head coach, coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1939-44 and 1954-56. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
