Marty Sertich is entering his eighth season as the assistant coach of the St. Thomas women's hockey team in 2024-25.

The University of St. Thomas women’s hockey program has grown in its first three seasons of the D-I era with Coach Sertich. The program rose from an eight-place WCHA finish in 2021-22 to a seventh-place WCHA finish in 2022-23. In 2022-23 the Tommie women’s hockey program earned conference points against ranked opponents. This included a shootout win over No. 7 ranked UMD. The St. Thomas women’s hockey team continued to make headlines, finishing the 2023-24 regular season with a 10-26-1 record. The Tommies earned their first regulation win over a nationally ranked opponent, defeating #9 St. Cloud State 5-1 on January 20, 2024.  In the past three seasons with St. Thomas, Sertich has coached one All-WCHA second team honoree and one All-WCHA freshman team selection.

Sertich served as the women's assistant coach at St. Thomas competing in NCAA Division III, from 2017-21. He was part of a St. Thomas staff that guided the 2018-19 Tommies to a late-season No. 1 national ranking, a school-record 25 victories, and a D-III Frozen Four appearance. His recruiting efforts helped attract a promising 2021 newcomer class with both local and international talent.

He brings continuity plus his extensive hockey background as a recruiter, instructor and an elite player. Sertich retired in 2016 after a 10-year professional playing career in Europe and in the American Hockey League. He was college hockey's Hobey Baker Award winner as a junior while at Colorado College, and also made All-America and was voted the WCHA Player of the Year in his Tiger career. He received the Man of the Year award for the Iowa Stars' AHL team in Des Moines.

A Roseville, Minn., native, Sertich currently runs Tradition Hockey, a youth training program based in Roseville. He previously ran a summer hockey camp in Roseville. He and his wife Becky are the parents of two daughters, Peyton and Mia.
