Women's soccer comes up short against Kansas City

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The University of St. Thomas lost to Kansas City 1-0 on Sunday at South Field. St. Thomas withstood eight Kansas City attacking actions without conceding a goal in the final minutes of the game, but the late stand was not enough. The Roos scored in the 88th minute to hand the Tommies the 1-0 loss. St. Thomas is now 1-7-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
First Half
- St. Thomas created the early chances, getting shots from Alexis Larson and Izzy McEwan in the opening 10 minutes.
- Ayden Gagner made a save on Kansas City's shot at 13:49 during a stretch that included several fouls while the match remained scoreless.
- St. Thomas pushed again late in the half, earning three corner kicks and getting a saved shot from Norah Benson before Georgiana McNeil hit the woodwork at 41:57.
- Neither team scored before halftime.
Second Half
- Kansas City pressed early with a corner kick and three shots, including a Gagner save at 46:58 and a St. Thomas team save at 48:35, but the match remained 0-0.
- St. Thomas generated sustained set-piece pressure from there, earning five corner kicks from 48:35 through 62:21 while getting shots from Sofia Englund and Emily McCarthy, whose 58:14 attempt was saved.
- Kansas City put another shot on frame at 65:37, saved by Gagner, and added attempts at 71:09 and 74:55 before building late pressure.
- After McEwan had a shot at 80:06, Kansas City earned four corners from 83:58 to 87:04 and got Gagner save on Brooklyn Lupinacci at 86:33 before Olivia Platt scored at 87:19 off Kaitlyn Edwards' assist for the 1-0 final.
McEwan led St. Thomas with four shots. Gagner played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves. McCarthy added two shots, including one on goal.
