Tommies beat Rollins 5-2

WINTER PARK, FLORIDA- The St. Thomas Women's Tennis team improved to 5-5 Friday afternoon thanks to a 5-2 win over Rollins College. After falling behind in doubles play, the Tommies rallied to win five of six singles matches, securing their fifth dual match win of the season.  

Rollins picked up the doubles point winning two of three, taking an early 1-0 lead of St. Thomas. The Tommies No. 2 team of Ingrid Forsberg and Else Vander Stichele won the lone doubles match, defeating their opponents 6-2.  

Double Results: 
    1. 6-1 Rollins 
    2. 6-2 UST 
    3. 6-3 Rollins 

St. Thomas rebounded with impressive singles play, winning five of six matches to secure the dual match victory. Vander Stichele won the first singles match of the evening, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot. As the No. 6 player, Alize Yarwood used late breaks to beat Sydney Eckstein 6-4, 6-4.  

Anna Sidorenko was the final Tommie to win in straight sets, downing Lorin Tilipman 6-3, 7-5 as the No. 3 player. The No. 1 and 5 doubles matches went the distance. After dropping the first set 6-0, Lily Olson rebounded in a big way as St. Thomas' No. 5 player, taking down Amina Abdulloeva 0-6, 6-3, 7-5.  

Emilia Korseth's match proved to be the most dramatic of the afternoon. As the No. 1 singles player, Korseth earned a resounding 6-1 win in the first set before dropping the second in a 7-6 (1) tiebreaker. She then rebounded, winning the third set 6-1.
