Tommie split Friday double-header with Lions

Tommies win game two 8-2
ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI- Tommie baseball splits Friday's double-header with the Lindenwood Lions. St. Thomas fell 4-2 in game one but bounced back with a convincing 8-1 victory in game two.
A four-run seventh inning in game two helped push the Tommies past the Lions.
GAME ONE
The Tommies struck first, plating one in the top of the second inning. Terek Verhage's RBI single to right center scored Zan Von Schlegell. Lindenwood then plated one of their own in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at one.
Owen Bond gave the Tommies a 2-1 lead after his RBI single in the third brought in Chirs Knowles who doubled earlier in the inning. The Lions responded in the bottom of the fifth scoring one to tie the game at 2.
Lindenwood took a 3-2 lead after scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth. The Lions extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth.
Matthew Maulik led the offense in game one tallying three hits. Owen Bond and Terek Verhage each chipped in an RBI.
GAME TWO
The Tommies struck first again in game two when Chris Knowles hit an RBI double to score Recchio. The Purple tacked on two more runs off an RBI double from Owen Bond to take a 3-0 after one.
Lindenwood plated one in the fourth to make the score 3-1. The Tommies responded in the top of the fifth after Tanner Recchios RBI single scored Adam Puder to take a 4-1 lead
The Purple then put up four runs in the seventh. Adam Puder got it started with a 2-run home run, Maulik then singled, and Tanner Recchio tripled to score Maulik. Joe Roder pitched in a sac fly that scored Recchio from third.
Lindenwood plated one in the bottom of the ninth to make the score 8-2.
Recchio, Knowles, and Puder each tallied two hits in the Tommies win. Owen Marsolek picked up the win on the mound.
UP NEXT
St. Thomas will be back for the rest of the series against the Lindenwood Lions Saturday, Feb. 21-22.
