DULUTH, Minn. — University of St. Thomas defeated Minn. Duluth 2-1 Friday. The Tommies outshot Minn. Duluth 36-17 and scored once in each of the final two periods. With the win, St. Thomas improves to 3-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in WCHA play.

QUICK FACTS:
Friday was St. Thomas' first win over a top-10 team since Oct. 18, 2025, when the Tommies defeated No. 10 St. Cloud State 4-3 in overtime at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It was also St. Thomas' third win over Minnesota-Duluth in the DI era. The Tommies swept the Bulldogs at St. Thomas Ice Arena in 2024-25, winning 3-2 and 4-3 in overtime.

SCORING SUMMARY:
Minn. Duluth struck first at 4:15, with Edit Danielsson scoring at even strength off assists from Madi Burr and Brooke Gnetz for a 1-0 lead. Dani Strom kept the Tommies within one through the middle of the first period, making saves on Kate Kosobud, Saige Ruback, Tuuli Tallinen and Rae Mayer as Minn. Duluth continued to create looks. The Tommies generated a late push, including Cailin Mumm hitting the pipe at 16:11 and Marilou Grenier stopping chances from Whitney Horton, Maddie Brown, Jenessa Gazdik and Cara Sajevic in the final minutes. After a Minn. Duluth too-many-players penalty at 18:25, the Tommies put four shots toward goal on the power play, but Grenier kept the Tommies off the board and Minn. Duluth carried a 1-0 lead into intermission.

The Tommies tied the game 1-1 at :30 of the second period when Sydney Bryant scored at even strength off assists from JuliAnna Gazdik and Horton. After Horton took a cross-checking penalty at 5:46, Minn. Duluth generated pressure on the power play, but Strom made three saves and Sajevic and JuliAnna Gazdik blocked shots before the Tommies returned to even strength. The Tommies created more chances through the middle and late stages, including saves by Grenier on Ella Boerger, Kenleigh Fischer, Chloe Boreen, Ellie Stewart and JuliAnna Gazdik, but the game remained tied 1-1 at the end of the second period.

After Strom handled an early Mayer shot, the Tommies generated much of the early third-period pressure, with Teagan Kulenkamp, Mumm, Bryant, Maya Engler and Fischer all recording attempts in the first five minutes. Minn. Duluth's Burr hit the pipe at 14:45, and Strom later stopped shots from Pauliina Salonen and Ida Karlsson while the Tommies continued to create chances through the final minutes. With 52 seconds left, Boreen scored at even strength off assists from Jenessa Gazdik and JuliAnna Gazdik to put the Tommies ahead 2-1, and after Minn. Duluth pulled its goalie with 33 seconds remaining, the Tommies closed out the win without allowing a recorded shot. Boreen has now scored a goal in every game she has played this season. After missing the Ohio State series, the junior picked up right where she left off vs. New Hampshire, scoring the game-winner with 53 seconds remaining in regulation. The Gazdik twins were also involved in the game-winning goal against the Huskies last season, when Jenessa Gazdik scored the game-winner with the first assist going to her twin sister JuliAnna. JuliAnna Gazdik was named the WCHA First Star of the Night thanks to her two-point performance, including an assist on Boreen's game-winner.
