Unbeaten streak comes to an end against Lindenwood

9/7/2025 4:03:00 PM | Men's Soccer

Tommie men’s soccer got on the board early but fell 5-1 on the road.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – An early goal scored in vain for Tommie Men's Soccer (2-1-2), who dropped their first game of the 2025 season, 5-1, on the road against the undefeated Lindenwood Lions (5-0-0). The Lions have outscored their opponents 18-2 to start the year. Mathis Guffroy scored the Toms' lone goal for his team-leading eighth and ninth points.

Scoring Summary
First Half
-Yanis Lakhlifi set up his fellow transfer, Guffroy, for a perfect chance, and the Frenchman scored his third of the season in the second minute.
-The Lions scored four unanswered in the 12th, 17th, 33rd, and 43rd minutes.
Second Half
-Lindenwood added its final goal of the contest in the 48th minute just 143 seconds after the halftime break.

Quick Hits
-Ronan Selbo played all 90 minutes, the only Tommie player to do so (outside of Moritz Krenc).
-Lindenwood outshot the Tommies 19-9 and 11-5 (on-goal).
-Mortiz Krenc made six saves in his first loss of the season.
-Baraka Kania and Kevin Sliva each received yellow cards. That makes two for Kania and one for Sliva on the year.

Tommie Tidbits
-Guffroy's goal was his third of the season, he is the eighth Tommie to record three goals in a season during the DI era. The grad transfer is on pace for over 10 goals in 2025. Faris Colic's six-goal season last year is the only one above the three-goal mark for the Tommies.
-It has taken Mathis Guffroy just five games to tally nine points, he is the quickest to nine points in program history. The next-quickest was Faris Colic in 2024, it took him six games.
-Guffroy is just the second Tommie in program history to record nine points. The program record is Colic's 14 points season last year; Mathis is on pace for over 30 points.
-Ronan Selbo (and Moritz Krenc) are the final remaining Tommies to have played all 450 minute of the season.
-The Tommies are now 2-1-1 when scoring first this season.

Quoting Coach Lowery
"Disappointing to let the game get away and credit to Lindenwood for a sharp performance in the attack, incredibly efficient. We will learn from this and grow as preparations continue for Summit League play."

Up Next
