Summit League coaches vote St. Thomas third; Kealy and Wetter named Athletes to Watch

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The University of St. Thomas volleyball program aims to pick up where it left off last season as it was picked to finish third in the 2025 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, released by the league office Tuesday.

The Tommies, picked to finish eighth in the 2024 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll before finishing third behind an overall record of 18-10 and conference record of 10-6, garnered 48 points in this season's preseason poll voted on by the Summit League's head volleyball coaches. St. Thomas comes in just behind South Dakota State, the 2024 Summit League regular season champion, with 62 points and 6 first-place votes and South Dakota, the 2024 Summit League tournament champion, with 57 points and 3 first-place votes.

2024 All-Summit League First Team selections Morgan Kealy and Megan Wetter return as the St. Thomas Players to Watch.

Kealy, a junior setter from River Falls, Wis., became the program's first conference individual award winner after being named the 2024 Summit League Setter of the Year. She broke her own St. Thomas Division I single-season assists record with 1,020, averaging 9.62 per set to rank second in the Summit League. Kealy added 285 digs to rank ninth in the league, along with 48 total blocks, 23 service aces, 60 kills, and 109.5 points. She played in all 28 matches and 106 sets, leading the Tommies in assists while finishing second in digs, fourth in service aces, and fourth in blocks. Her top performances included a season- and career-high 53 assists at Green Bay on Sept. 20, four service aces against Denver on Oct. 31, and 24 digs versus South Dakota on Nov. 14.

Wetter, a senior middle blocker from Monticello, Minn., set the St. Thomas Division I era single-season record with 102 total blocks. She also recorded the fifth-most single-season kills in the DI era with 240, averaging 2.45 kills and 3.23 points per set to rank 17th in kills and 15th in points in the Summit League. Wetter added 16 assists, 14 service aces, 68 digs, and 317 total points while playing in 26 matches and 98 sets. She finished the season ranked first on the team in blocks, third in kills, and fifth in assists. She earned her first career Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week honor following a weekend sweep at undefeated South Dakota State and at Kansas City, posting double-digit kills in both along with eight blocks at SDSU.

First serve of the 2025 season is August 29-31 with the Minnesota Tournament in Minneapolis. St. Thomas opens its season against Ball State at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by Cal Poly at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Minnesota at 3 p.m. on Sunday, all hosted at Maturi Pavilion.

Head Coach Thanh Pham enters his 23rd season leading the program, continuing the league's longest tenure among the nine Summit League head coaches at their respective schools.

In its most successful Division I season to date, St. Thomas Volleyball recorded 18 wins in 2024 - becoming one of just six teams since 2011 to reach that mark during a DI transition - and notched its first-ever win over a Power Four opponent with a 3-1 victory against Iowa. The Tommies went 8-3 in non-conference play, capturing three straight tournament titles, and finished 3-1 against the Summit League's top postseason teams - ending regular-season champion South Dakota State's perfect 22-0 start and sweeping tournament champion South Dakota.

The team led the Summit League in digs and ranked top three in opponent hitting percentage, assists per set, and kills per set. St. Thomas also earned a league-best three All-Summit First Team selections, added two honorable mentions, and celebrated its fourth consecutive All-Freshman Team honoree.
