11 hits and 11 walks in the Tommies’ 9-4 win against the Bluejays
Cassidy Carby headlined the effort with a 4 for 4 performance with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Grace Nosan accomplished two career firsts on one swing of the bat with a solo home run in the fifth inning, her first career hit and homer.
Recap
The Tommies' offense got the afternoon started on the right foot when Abbi Stierlen walked home Avery Wukawitz for the game's first score. The Bluejays answered right back with two runs on a single up the middle off the Toms' starter, Christina Crawford.
Crawford got some run support in the next inning on a Laken Lienhard RBI single to score Zoe Trotter and tie the game. The senior arm worked a scoreless second before Ella Cook came on in relief in the bottom of the third.
Cook struck out one batter and then stranded a runner on third after a two out double and wild pitch.
Avery Wukawitz led off the top of the fourth with an 11 pitch walk and then stole second base. Lienhard followed her up with a walk of her own and then Cassidy Carby doubled Wukawitz home. Ella Cook then doubled Lienhard and Carby across to give the Toms a 5-2 lead.
Cook worked around a one out single in a scoreless bottom fourth inning.
Grace Nosan led off the fifth with the first home run of her career to left field. Crawford returned to the circle in the bottom of the fifth and worked consecutive scoreless innings. Nosan added her second RBI of the game with a bases loaded two out walk in the sixth.
St. Thomas added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch and the third bases loaded walk of the game to go up 9-2. Crawford allowed two rather meaningless runs to cross in the bottom of the seventh inning before striking out the final batter of the evening.
Crawford went five innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts, she earned the save despite starting the game. Ella Cook earned the win in relief thanks to her two scoreless innings in the middle frames. She allowed just two hits and struck out one batter.
