Summit League outdoor track & field preseason poll released

Men’s and women’s programs both selected to finish fifth
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Both St. Thomas men's and women's track & field programs were selected to finish fifth as the 2025 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll was released on Wednesday.
Head Coach Pete Wareham, entering his 32nd season, leads the men's team that earned 17 points in the poll. Head Coach Ashley Lucas, now in her third season, guides the women's team that garnered 25 points from league coaches.
North Dakota State was voted to finish first in both the men's and women's polls, followed by North Dakota and South Dakota in the women's poll and South Dakota and South Dakota State in the men's poll.
Mitchell Piehl and Jack Rosner were named the St. Thomas men's athletes to watch while Olivia Keller and Anna Swanson earned the distinction for the women's team.
Rosner, a senior from De Pere, Wis., in the multis, earned All-Summit League honors with a silver medal in the decathlon (7,249 points) and a bronze in the 110m hurdles (14.12) at the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Championships. He set program records in the 110m hurdles, high jump, 1500m run, and decathlon, while also helping the shuttle hurdle relay team set a school record at the Drake Relays (59.77). Rosner ranked top three in the Summit League in the decathlon, 400m hurdles, and 110m hurdles, while also achieving top-50 marks in the Midwest region across five events. He is coming off a Summit All-League performance after taking second in the heptathlon during the 2025 Summit League Indoor Championships.
Piehl, a junior sprinter from Hutchinson, Minn., earned All-Summit League honors with a third-place finish in the 200m dash (21.40) at the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Championships. He ranked 26th in the Midwest region and fourth in the Summit League in the 400m dash (47.56) and 29th in the Midwest and eighth in the Summit League in the 200m dash (21.35). Piehl ran the program's second-fastest 200m dash (21.35) during prelims and second-fastest 400m dash (47.56) during finals at the league meet.
Keller, a junior from Burnsville, Minn., in the multis, set the St. Thomas heptathlon record (4,767 points) during the 2024 outdoor season, placing fifth at the Summit League Championships. She was part of the record-setting 4x400m relay (3:44.77) and ranked in the top 10 of the Summit League in four events, including the 400m hurdles (1:02.60) and long jump (5.84m).
Swanson, a graduate student in the javelin from Osceola, Wis., became the first Summit League champion in St. Thomas history, winning the javelin with a school-record throw of 47.65m (156-4) during the 2024 outdoor season. She ranked 13th in the Midwest Region and won four javelin event titles during the 2024 season. Swanson also secured a second-place finish at the John McDonnell Invitational and a fourth-place result at the Drake Relays.
St. Thomas begins its outdoor campaign March 26-29 with both teams competing at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational & Multi, while only the women's team will compete at the Raleigh Relays. The Tommies will host one meet in St. Paul, the St. Thomas Easter Invitational on Thursday, April 17. The 2025 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 15-17 in Vermillion, S.D.
