Malmquist led the charge for the Tommies in Mason Cup Quarterfinal

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association released its weekly honors for the first round of the Mason Cup Playoffs and Liam Malmquist was named Forward of the Week for the third time this season.

Liam was instrumental in the Tommies' first-ever playoff series win this past Friday and Saturday. He scored two goals and recorded a +2 on Friday and then one-upped himself with his second hat trick of the season, an assist, and a +4 rating on Saturday. He scored a shorthanded goal and the game winning goal to push the Toms to the Mason Cup Semifinal.

Malmquist became the only Tommie to surpass 40 points in a season in program history with his performance on Saturday. His 42 points are the most in the CCHA by three points over his teammate Lucas Wahlin (39) and five points over everybody else. His 1.17 points per game land him in the top-20 nationally.

He is also the only player in the conference with two hat tricks and leads the nation with four shorthanded goals.

This weekly honor is the third of the season for Malmquist and seventh of the season for St. Thomas. Malmquist was also named January Forward of the Month and finalist for Forward of the Year.
