Five Tommies named to PFL Academic All-Conference teams

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The postseason awards continue to roll in for the University of St. Thomas football team. Five Tommies were named to the Pioneer Football League (PFL) Academic All-Conference team Wednesday afternoon, the most in the program's DI era.  

Ryan Sever (Edina, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret), Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline), and Elliot Huether (Minnetonka, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret) were named First Team Academic All-Conference Wednesday afternoon, while James Morrison (West St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) and Patrick Wagner (Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) garnered Second Team honors.
 
PFL athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reach his second season academically and played at least one full season at his current institution.

  • Business Economics Major; 3.74 GPA
  • First time Academic All-Conference honoree
  • 2025 First Team All-PFL
  • 2x PFL Academic Honor Roll recipient
  • Appeared in all 12 games for the Tommies in 2025
  • Led the PFL in average punt yards vs. conference opponents and overall
  • Owns the longest punt in PFL play in 2025 of 69 yards
  • Ranks second in the PFL in 50+ yard punts (8) and third in punts inside the 20 (9)
Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline) – First, Quarterback
  • Master's in Diversity Leadership; 3.70 GPA
  • 2025 Second Team All-PFL
  • First time Academic All-Conference honoree
  • 2x PFL Offensive Player of the Week
  • Played and started 10 of 12 games for the Tommies in 2025
  • Led the No. 1 ranked offense in the PFL
    • No. 1 in points per game (34.9)
    • No. 1 in total points (279)
    • No. 1 in total touchdowns (36)
  • Ranked first in total offense (237.0 yards/game) vs. conference opponents
  • Ranked second in passing yards/game (200.6) vs. conference opponents
  • Ranked third in passing efficiency (147.1) and fifth in total passing yards (1404) vs. conference opponents
  • Set DI era record for single-game passing yards (292)
Ryan Sever (Edina, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret) – First Team, Linebacker
  • Business: Finance Major; 3.51 GPA

  • Played and started all 12 games for St. Thomas in 2025

  • Mechanical Engineering Major; 3.63 major

  • 3x PFL Academic Honor Roll honoree (2022, 2023, 2024)
  • Appeared and started in 11/12 games for St. Thomas in 2025
  • Led St. Thomas as the No. 1 ranked offense in the PFL (vs. conference opponents)
    • No. 1 in points per game (34.9)
    • No. 1 in total points (279)
    • No. 1 in total touchdowns (36)
    • No. 1 in total pass yards (2034) - only team with over 2000 yards passing in PFL play
    • No. 1 in total offensive yards (3082)
    • No. 1 in offensive yards/game (385.3) 
Patrick Wagner (Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) – Second Team, Tight End
  • Business: Marketing Major; 3.61 GPA
  • First time Academic All-Conference honoree
  • 2x All-Conference honoree
  • 3x PFL Academic Honor Roll honoree
  • Appeared in 11 games in 2025 as one of the top receiving tight ends in the PFL
  • Ranked second on the team in touchdowns (3) and third in receiving yards (390) and receptions (27)
  • Averaged 14.44 yards/catch and 35.45 yards/game
  • Recorded a season-high 92 receiving yards at Northern Michigan
