St. Thomas to face No. 5 seed Iowa State Friday in Minneapolis

Tommies make first ever NCAA DI Tournament appearance Dec. 5 at Maturi Pavilion
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas volleyball makes its first ever NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament appearance as an automatic qualifier Friday, Dec. 5 as it's set to face No. 5 seed Iowa State at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis, as announced Sunday night during the selection show on ESPN.
The Tommies (21-9, 11-5 Summit) and Cyclones begin at 4:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to play the winner between No. 4 seed Minnesota and Fairfield on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for the public at gophersports.com starting Monday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. while each game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The winner of the Second Round will advance to the NCAA Regionals Dec. 11-13 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The winning team from the Regional round will advance to play in the Final Four Dec. 18 and 21 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
St. Thomas sealed its bid to the NCAA DI Tournament for the first time during its first year of eligibility following a 3-1 win over South Dakota State University in the Summit League Tournament Championship Nov. 25, hosted in Brookings, S.D. The Tommies and Jackrabbits are the lone teams from the Summit League to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, marking the third time in the league's history to have two programs qualify.
UST joins the University of Toledo as programs making their first ever appearances in the national tournament.
The Tommies set Division I program records with 21 overall wins and 11 Summit League wins, and rank among the top 25 nationally in aces per set (9th), kills per set (12th), assists per set (14th), and attacks per set (22nd).
