The Tommies scored in the third period to tie the game but could not complete the comeback

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – St. Thomas Men's Hockey (10-11-5 overall, 7-7-4 CCHA) played one of its tightest games of the season in a 2-1 losing effort against the Bemidji State Beavers (9-13-4, 6-9-3) on Sunday afternoon at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

Chase Cheslock scored his first goal of the year from Lucas Wahlin and Chase Foley while Aaron Trotter stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced. Both teams placed 21 shots on goal.

Recap
Bemidji State was awarded the game's first power play at 10:23 when St. Thomas' Chase Foley was called for holding the stick. The Beavers scored at 10:29 to take the lead on their sixth shot of the afternoon.

The Tommies also had a chance on the power play in the first but did not capitalize. The visitors headed to their locker room with a one goal lead. Both teams recorded eight shots on goal, the Beavers won 13 of the 23 faceoffs in the frame.

Bemidji State took control in the second period with nine shots on goal to St. Thomas' four. The Tommies had another power play chance but were once again thwarted. They finished the game 0-2 with a man advantage. Neither team scored in the middle frame.

Over 10 minutes went by in the third period until the next goal of the game. Chase Cheslock launched a puck from the blue line through traffic to knot the game up at one goal a side. Assisting on Cheslock's first goal of the season were Lucas Wahlin and Chase Foley

The Beavers delivered a dagger of a goal just 44 seconds later. They did not relinquish another score after staving off the Tommies' 6-on-5 push for the final two minutes of the contest.

Both teams finished with 21 shots on goal, the first game with even shots on goal during the 2024-25 season for the Tommies.
