Tommies receive honor for third consecutive season

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas has once again been selected as the recipient of the 2023-24 Summit League Sportsmanship Award. The Tommies, who won the award in both 2021-22 and 2022-23, were announced as the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award on Wednesday, following a vote by Summit League institutions.

"We are proud to be recognized by our peers in the Summit League with the Sportsmanship Award," commented Dr. Phil Esten, St. Thomas Vice President and Director of Athletics. "This award is a testament to our to our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans, who represent the Tommies in a first class manner."

The Summit League Sportsmanship Award is given annually to a conference institution that is judged by its peers to be the best in the league in living up to the ideals of sportsmanship and covets crucial elements such as student-athlete conduct, staff/administrator conduct, coaches' conduct and event management. St. Thomas has received the award every season since joining the conference in 2021 and does so after a historic season in 2023-24. The Tommies claimed their first Summit League Championship, as St. Thomas earned the regular season title in baseball this past weekend. Additionally, the Tommies recorded their highest finish in the Commissioners Cup race, finishing fourth in the final standings.

In addition to the individual team success, St. Thomas also hosted a Summit League Championship for the first time in the DI era. The Tommies were selected as the host of the Outdoor Track and Field Championship, which ran from May 9-11 at O'Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota.
