St. Thomas earns first Summit League Title with a 7-5 victory over Oral Roberts

Strong start lifts Tommie Baseball to their first conference championship in the DI-era
St. Paul, Minn. – In a historic game to secure the Summit League title, St. Thomas needed a win on Saturday afternoon to earn the conference title. In the final game of the season, the Tommies (22-24, 16-10 Summit) defeated Oral Roberts (24-30-1, 13-15-1 Summit) in a historic victory at Koch Diamond.
St. Thomas started off strong scoring six runs in the first inning, tallying two homeruns in the opening frame to go up 6-0.
Matthew Maulik recorded a three-run homer, his third of the series and team-leading ninth of the season, followed by a two-run home run by Joe Vos.
The Tommies added a run in the second, holding the lead through the entirety of the game.
Maulik finished the game with two RBI, leading the team with 42 on the season.
Devon Schewe, Max Skilbeck, and Kolby Gartner (4-5) combined for seven Ks. Gartner allowed just two runs and five hits in 5.0 innings of work. Max Skilbeck closed the game not allowing a hit, earning his second save of the season.
