Late scoring lifts Tommie Baseball over the Golden Eagles, 7-5

The Tommies secured their first series victory against Oral Roberts on Saturday afternoon
TULSA, Okla. – After winning game one of the series on Friday night, St. Thomas baseball looked to secure the series against Oral Roberts on Saturday afternoon. The Tommies (12-14, 7-3 Summit) once again out-hit the Golden Eagles (12-22-1, 4-9-1 Summit) and earned their first series victory over Oral Roberts.
In game two, it was St. Thomas that earned the first lead of the game. With two outs and bases loaded, Mikey Gottschalk recorded a bases-clearing double to lift the Tommies 3-0 in the top of the second inning.
Brigs Richartz and Ben Vujovich tallied RBIs in back-to-back innings, putting the Toms up 5-3 after four.
After four scoreless innings, Matthew Maulik drove in two Tommies to extend the Purple's lead 7-3 going into the bottom of the final frame.
The Golden Eagles added two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout from Walker Retz ended the game and secured the 7-5 victory.
Five Tommies recorded two-hit days, as Max Moris, Richartz and Gottschalk all recorded doubles in game two.
Evan Esch, Max Skilbeck (2-0), and Retz combined for eight strikeouts in the Tommie victory. Retz collected his first career save in Purple.
