First Tommie football player honored in program history

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – With spring practices underway, the University of St. Thomas football team received good news late Tuesday afternoon. Former defensive back Johnson Fallah (Brookyln Park, Minn. / Osseo) was named the Stein-Fallon College Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF). Fallah is the first Tommie to receive the prestigious honor and will be recognized during this summer's Minnesota Football Honors television broadcast.

"We are excited to honor Johnson for his excellent achievements in the classroom," said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation, in a press. "In addition to his outstanding performance on the field, Johnson has made a profound, impactful mark on the local community. We are looking forward to honoring him during this summer's Minnesota Football Honors television broadcast."

Established in 2010, the Stein-Fallon College Scholar-Athlete Award highlights outstanding academic, athletic and community service accomplishments and is presented annually to a football student-athlete from a college or university in Minnesota. Fallah checked off all the boxes during his career at St. Thomas, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while pursuing a Master's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership. In his fifth and final season with the Tommies, Fallah was named First Team All-Conference and Second Team Academic All-Conference by the Pioneer Football League (PFL) and earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sport Communicators (CSC) in 2023.  He was named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll in 2022 and 2023 and was also inducted into the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2022.

On the field, Fallah tallied 111 total tackles (78 solo, 33 assists) in three seasons with St. Thomas, transferring to the university in 2021 after two seasons at Minnesota-Crookston. He was also credited with 21 pass breakups, eight interceptions, a pick-six and forced fumble, and was named the PFL Defensive Player of the Week following his outstanding performance against Black Hills State University to open the 2023 season. As a senior, Fallah put together career numbers, starting all 11 games as a defensive back with 33 total tackles, 29 of which were solo. He led the team in solo tackles (29) and interception (3) in 2023 and ranked top-10 in the PFL in passes defended and interceptions.

Fallah and the rest of the 2024 award winners will be recognized during this summer's Minnesota Football Honors television broadcast. Information and details about the broadcast, which will honor and highlight award winners from the high school, college and professional levels, will be announced at a later date at www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
