Allen scores season high 18 points as Tommies fall at Pioneers

Anthony adds 13 points, Blue scores 12 while Denver shoots 58 percent
DENVER, Colo. -- Graduate student Brooks Allen shot 6-of-10 from the field for a season high 18 points Saturday afternoon during St. Thomas men's basketball's 94-77 loss at Denver.
Allen totaled eight points in each half to record his sixth double-digit scoring game of the season. He surpassed his previous season high of 17 points twice while fellow grad student Raheem Anthony scored 13 points and sophomore Kendall Blue added 12.
St. Thomas shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-61) and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc (6-24) while Denver finished the game shooting 57.9 percent overall (33-57) and 40.0 percent from 3-point range (10-25). The Tommies outscored the Pioneers on fast break points (22-14), off turnovers (18-16), in the paint (42-38), and off second-chance points (10-5).

Anthony recorded the Toms' first points of the game on a driving layup before senior Drake Dobbs sank his only 3-pointer for the largest lead of the game, 5-2, less than two minutes in. A converted and-one sparked a quick 8-0 run for Denver to nab a five-point lead.
St. Thomas tied the game twice on an and-one conversion from Allen and a driving layup from Dobbs, pitting the game at 12-12 with 15:33 in the first. The Pioneers scored five straight to take the lead for the rest of the game. The Purple pulled within five points three times by the three-minute mark but an 8-0 streak pushed the DU lead to double digits, 42-29, ahead of the halftime break.

TOP TOMMIES
- Grad student Brooks Allen set a season high with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. He added four rebounds, moving into sole possession of 34th all-time in program history, and totaled three steals, his second straight game with at least three.
- Grad student Raheem Anthony totaled 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. It was his 15th double-digit scoring game of the season, and seventh consecutive to tie Blue for the longest by a Tommie this season.
- Sophomore Kendall Blue finished with 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting, his 14th double-digit scoring game this year.
UP NEXT
St. Thomas returns to St. Paul, Minn., Saturday, Feb. 17 to face South Dakota presented by Twin Cities Orthopedics. The Tommies, who play just one game next week, are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. from Schoenecker Arena against the Coyotes.
