Tommies rise over Phoenix in commanding road victory, 90-76

Miles Barnstable leads St. Thomas for second time with 23 points
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The 2024-25 St. Thomas men's basketball road opener was a success following a 90-76 win at Green Bay on Friday night in Kress Center. Junior Miles Barnstable led the Tommies, who improve to 2-0 on the season, in scoring for the second straight game with 23 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
The Tommies shot a blistering 60.4 percent from the field, the second time shooting over 60 percent over the past two seasons, and made eight 3-pointers on 44.4 percent shooting. St. Thomas outrebounded Green Bay, 37-25, and won the battle in the paint, 48-32.
GAME RECAP
The Phoenix took the first and their largest lead of the game with two quick baskets, 4-0. Rich Byhre put in two paint baskets followed by a jumper in the paint by Nolan Minessale for a 6-0 run and the Tommies' first lead, 8-6. The teams traded leads once, Barnstable converting an and-one opportunity to start a 10-0 run for the final lead of the night, 18-11.
The Tommie lead grew to 10 points, 29-19, on Kendall Blue's only 3-pointer of the game at the 10-minute mark in the first half. St. Thomas finished the first half shooting 60.6 percent overall and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc (5-11) as the lead was extended to 19 at halftime.
Blue and Barnstable scored the first five points of the second half for the Tommies as the lead reached a game high of 24 points, 59-35. Green Bay slowly chipped away while shooting 50.0 percent in the second half, bringing the game to within single digits with under five minutes to play. Ben Oosterbaan made his only basket, a 3-pointer, to push the lead back to double figures for good.

- Miles Barnstable led the Tommies in scoring for the second straight game with 23 points on 6-of-11 shooting. He went 3-of-7 from long range and 8-of-10 from the free throw line with three rebounds and two blocks. Barnstable is 13 points away from 1,000 in his career, entering the season with 948 points, and three away from 200 career rebounds.
- Kendall Blue scored 17 points, his fourth career game with at least 17, on 7-of-10 shooting with two steals.
- Ryan Dufault led the bench with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 2-of-3 from the free throw line. He added four rebounds, four assists and one steal.
- Drake Dobbs converted 3-of-4 shooting, including 1-of-1 from long range, and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to finish with 11 points. Dobbs is seven points away from 500 in his career.
