Strom tallies 26 saves as Tommies pick up extra point against the Huskies

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team welcome the #8/7 St. Cloud State Huskies to Saint Thomas Ice Arena on Friday evening. The WCHA match-up ended in a tie, as the Tommies (4-2-1, 2-2-1 WCHA) picked up the extra WCHA point against the Huskies (6-1-2, 2-1-2 WCHA) at home.

RECAP
In the scoreless first period, each team had a power play opportunity late in the frame. While neither team capitalized, the Huskies went into the first intermission with the advantage in shots on goal, 11-8.

Just five minutes into the second period, Madison Brown scored the game's first goal, posting her team-leading fourth of the season off a pass from Maddy Clough.

The remainder of the middle frame remained scoreless as the Tommies limited the Huskies to just four shots on goal while adding 11 of their own.

Midway through the final period, St. Cloud State was called for body checking. Shortly after, St. Thomas was sent to the box for the same infraction, as the teams played 4-on-4 for a 1:48.

Down one goal, the Huskies went back on the player advantage looking to tie the game with 7:48 remaining in regulation. Allowing just two shots on net, Dani Strom and the Tommies successfully defended the St. Cloud State power play.

However, shortly after their power play ended, the Huskies tied the game at 1-1. With neither side able to find the go-ahead goal, the Tommies went to overtime for the first time this season.

In the five-minute overtime period, the Tommies added six shots on goal, totaling 29 to the Huskies 27 during 65 minutes of play.

In the shootout, Maddy Clough, Chloe Boreen and Haley Maxwell scored for the Purple, lifting the Tommies to a shootout victory against St. Cloud State.

Dani Strom finished the game totaling 26 saves for St. Thomas.

QUOTABLE
Coach Johnson on Dani Strom's performance in net:
"Dani Strom was outstanding," Head Coach Joel Johnson said. "I'm really excited for her. She earned the shootout victory and represented well what it takes to compete in the WCHA as a goaltender."
