Cross Country to run at Pink Classic on October 18

Tommies to run at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas cross country heads into the tail end of its 2024 schedule as the men and women ready for the Pink Classic Oct. 18, hosted by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. The Tommies will be one of 54 total universities participating at the meet at Newman Golf Course.
The meet begins at 1:30 p.m. with the Men's 8,000-meter White race followed by the Women's 6K White race at 2:15 p.m. The red races limit each team to nine athletes per race, which include the Men's 8K Red race at 3:00 p.m. and the Women's 6K Red race at 3:45 p.m.

Last Time Out
Men
The St. Thomas men's cross country team ran at the Joe Piane Invitational, with 12 personal records set overall. Sean McNiesh led the Tommies in the Gold 8K, finishing 42nd with a personal best of 25:00.5. Freshmen Kai Liljequist and Ethan Foote followed closely, finishing 53rd and 68th, both also setting personal bests. Adam Lueth and Max Westerlund placed back-to-back in 77th and 78th, respectively, with personal records as well. In the Open 8K, Joe McNeil led the way, finishing 45th with a personal best of 25:13.5.
Women
St. Thomas women's cross country delivered a strong performance at the Joe Piane Invitational, securing a third-place finish in the Gold 5K race among 23 teams. Molly Desotell led the team with a 13th-place finish at 17:34.2, followed by personal bests from Ava Pankratz and Elsie Kmecak, finishing 21st and 28th, respectively. Freshmen Sophie Yetter and Olivia Pauly rounded out the top five scorers. In the Open 5K, freshman Emily Baker led the Tommies, finishing 71st with a time of 18:59.4. Additionally, six runners competed in the Blugold Invite, where Olivia Goebel paced the team in the 6K with a time of 23:38.2, leading St. Thomas to a sixth-place team finish.
2023 Pink Classic Review
St. Thomas men's cross country braved rainy conditions at the Pink Classic, hosted by Bradley University, finishing 14th out of 29 teams. Caden Nordberg led the Tommies with a 30th-place finish, completing the 8K race in 24:55.0. Charlie Caven followed in 47th at 25:07.50, while George Edgar set a personal record of 25:24.00 for 72nd place. The team tallied 369 points with an average time of 24:55.00.
St. Thomas women's cross country also overcame rainy conditions to secure a 12th-place finish out of 32 teams at the Pink Classic Molly Desotell led the Tommies, finishing 27th in the 6K race with a time of 21:48.0. The team tallied 324 points with an average time of 22:19.0. Ava Pankratz placed 50th in 22:05.1, while Christina Bolcer finished 63rd in 22:15.1. Gabriella Witschen took 80th, and Emily Rather set a personal record at 23:03.3 to round out the top five scorers for St. Thomas.

The Tommie men will take a two-week break between competitions as it closes its season Nov. 2 with the Summit League Championships in Vermillion, S.D. The women will send athletes to Rocky's Run, hosted by the University of Minnesota, on Oct. 25 before heading to the Summit League Championships.
