Rowe makes nine saves in loss to the Gophers

ST. PAUL, Minn. – It was a tough Sunday night for the St. Thomas Women's Soccer team as they fell 5-0 to Minnesota, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. The Tommies were able to keep it a one score game until the last twenty minutes of the contest when the Gophers were able to find the net four times.

Defensively, the Tommies were able to stop 17 of Minnesota's 22 shots. Olivia Rowe saved nine of the Gophers' 14 shots on goal.

RECAP
The Tommies began the game on the defensive as the Gophers controlled the ball for most of the first half. After three unsuccessful Minnesota shots, Gophers' Sophia Boman scored at 16:17.

St. Thomas tightened up the defense as they didn't allow another goal in the first half courtesy of Olivia Rowe's two saves. After 45 minutes of play, Minnesota piled up 10 corners and nine shots. The Tommies trailed by one heading into the second half.

To begin the second half, the Gophers continued to test the Tommies' defense. Rowe saved four shots on goal until the Gophers were able to put one in at 71:37. Shortly after, Minnesota scored again at 74:39 putting the Gophers up 3-0 with roughly fifteen minutes left to play.

At 75:54, Gophers' Sophia Bowman scored her third goal of the game making it a four point differential. Four minutes later, the Gophers scored another goal at 79:02 to make it a five-goal deficit for St. Thomas. The Tommies continued to fight for the duration of the game as they ultimately fell to Minnesota 5-0.

QUOTEABLES (Head Coach Sheila McGill on her team's effort in the defeat)
"We played strong defensively and created a few opportunities for about 75 minutes of the game, but we had about 15 minutes where we really lost our coordination. That is when they exposed us. We will go back and review and do better and learn from it and know that it is not acceptable and we will grow from there.
