Tommie Cross Country opens season Friday at Augustana Twilight

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The race is on as St. Thomas men's and women's cross country begins its 2023 season Friday, Sept. 1 at the Augustana Twilight, hosted by Augustana University, at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The women kick-off the collegiate divisions at 8:40 p.m. with a 5K race followed by the men at 9:10 p.m. with a four-mile race.

Pete Wareham enters his 31st season as the head men's cross country coach at St. Thomas, helping the squad to a third-place finish at the 2022 Summit League Championships. Ashley Lucas is in her second season as the head coach for the women's program that took fourth at last season's Summit League Championships. Both men's and women's teams repeated as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selections.
The women's squad is comprised of 27 student-athletes, 11 of which are freshmen. Leading the way as captains are seniors Christina Bolcer and Emily Rather, and juniors Alicia Belany, Molly Desotell, and Lauren Ellefson. Desotell paced the Tommies at the 2022 Summit League Championships with a seventh-place finish.
The men's team includes 15 student-athletes, including eight freshmen. Senior Charlie Caven and junior Tony Weeks were chosen as team captains for the 2023 season. Caven led all returners with a 19th-place finish at the 2022 Summit League Championships.
