Men's Golf sets 2023-24 fall-spring schedule

St. Paul, Minn. -- St. Thomas Men's Golf has announced its 2023-24 schedule, including four fall events and five spring tournaments.

Coach Matt Rachey's Tommies won three tournaments last year, all with eight to 14 teams competing. Those were the first multi-team tournament victories in any sport thus far in St. Thomas' D-I era.

The Purple capped the 2021-22 season with a sixth-place finish at the Summit League tournament, two spots higher than its eighth-place conference finish from spring 2022.

With several top returners, plus a strong recruiting class pushing for lineup spots, Rachey is optimistic the Toms will build on the improvements displayed last school year.

"Year three is sure to be an exciting one for Tommie golf," Rachey said. "After having several tastes of success last season, we look to continue to build on our momentum. Our roster will be returning four of five starters from 2022-23, with the addition of a very talented and hungry class of freshmen.

"From a scheduling perspective, we have some bigger tournaments this year with deeper fields. Our guys will be challenged, and I'm excited to see them compete at several incredible venues. I look forward to getting back to work with them in September."

The coach noted he's especially looking to a variety of spring tournaments to be played in different states, including an April event near Seattle.

"There are several great tournaments on our schedule that I'm looking forward to," Rachey said. "The Chambers Bay Invitational (hosted by Seattle University) will definitely be a highlight with the golf course being the same course that hosted the 2015 U.S. Open Championship. Playing the same golf course as a PGA Tour major championship is sure to provide a great test and incredible experience for our guys. The Grand Canyon Invitational will also be a fantastic event with a deep field, to be played in Phoenix."
