Guard/forward Angelina Hammond to join Tommies in 2023-24

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Graduate student and Hopkins, Minn., native Angelina Hammond joins the St. Thomas women's basketball program for the 2023-24 season, head coach Ruth Sinn announced Monday.
Hammond, a 5-foot-11-inch guard/forward combo, comes to St. Thomas after playing at Minnesota last season and previous stops at Miami Dade (2021-22), Southeastern (2019-21), and Siena (2018-19). She most recently played in 25 games with the Gophers, averaging 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game and shooting 41.8 percent from the field. Hammond set NCAA Division I career-highs with 12 points and five rebounds Feb. 15, 2023 against Nebraska, shooting 5-of-9 from the field to go along with three offensive rebounds.
Hammond played one season at Miami Dade College, averaging 7.8 points on 47.1 percent shooting from the floor along with 6.5 rebounds per game. She posted a career-best 22-point, 8-rebound, and 5-steal outing on Jan. 29 before being named First Team All-Southern Conference by the NJCAA. Hammond recorded five double-doubles in 28 games.
Hammond began her career at Siena College before joining Southeastern for two seasons. She appeared in 21 games during her time at Southeastern. Hammond was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at Hopkins High School and was named all-conference three times and Minnesota all-state twice. She is the daughter of John and Joan Hammond and is a nursing major.
The Tommie Women's Basketball newcomers for the 2023-24 season include Hammond, Sammi Beyer, Emma Miner, Lizzie Steingraber, and Zoey Washington.
