Rohde ignites Men's Hoops in comeback playoff win

Sioux Falls, S.D. -- First Division I postseason game? No problem. Double-digit deficit in final 13:00? No problem.
Against the odds vs. Western Illinois in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League tournament, Tommie Men's Basketball found a way here Sunday night.
Freshman guard Andrew Rohde scored 24 points -- including 10 during a late game-changing 12-0 run -- to power the Purple to a 67-60 victory. A game-closing 18-4 run over the final 6:57 was the difference.
Coach Johnny Tauer's No. 5-seeded Tommies (19-13) advance to Monday's 6 p.m. semifinal round game against top-seed and conference champion Oral Roberts (28-4). The Golden Eagles, riding a 15-game win streak, topped the Purple by 12 and seven points in January and February meetings.
Three players scored 59 of the Toms 67 points against the No. 4-seed Leathernecks (15-14). Parker Bjorklund finished with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Kendall Blue added 10 points and eight boards.
Behind by four points at halftime, the Toms later trailed 50-40 with 12:21 to go. They were down 56-49 with 7:40 to play, but Bjorklund made two free throws and Rohde sank two treys, made a layup, and added two free throws in a 12-0 run that put St. Thomas ahead 61-56.
The Toms stepped up their defense and rebounding during the late run. Western scored on just two of their last 14 possessions.
*A stat correction was made on Monday, March 6, which corrected a 3-point field goal credited to Rohde that should have been credited to Bjorklund.
Did You Know?
The Summit League Freshman of the Year, Rohde has scored 100 points over his last four games. He became the first St. Thomas freshman player to surpass 500 points in a season (now 508 in 30 games).
It was just the Toms' second win of the season (2-12 record) in games when then they trail at halftime.
St. Thomas outscored Western 24-15 behind the arc and 11-1 at the foul line.
