Ole Miss pulls away late to top Tommie Softball

Oxford, Miss. -- Avery Wukawitz and Brooke Ellestad continued to produce at the plate, but Tommie Softball closed out a 1-4 weekend against a tough draw of teams with Sunday's 9-1, six-inning loss to host Ole Miss in the Rebels' tournament.
The last six games for the Purple (7-18) include four losses to Power 5 conference teams Ole Miss, Purdue and Minnesota.
The Rebels (18-12), a 41-win team last season, ran their win streak to four and outhit the Tommies 13-4. St. Thomas, which trailed just 4-1 in the fourth inning, left eight runners on base.
Ellestad had a sac fly in the first inning to plate Wukawitz with the Toms' lone run of the day.
Ellestad went 4-for-13 with three RBI over the five-game tournament. Wukawitz went 5-for-12 with three walks, and has hit safely in five games in a row and nine of her last 11 contests.
Kameron Monson also went 5-for-12 with two RBI on the weekend, while Abbi Stierlen went 3-for-8 with a solo homer.

The Tommies, who have played 25 games in 38 days to open the season. travel to play a Tuesday doubleheader at California Baptist, followed by a Wednesday twinbill at the University of San Diego.
