Men’s Basketball one-ups Kansas City’s 21-point win earlier in the season with a 30-point bounce-back win

St. Paul, Minn. – Less than a month after suffering a 21-point loss in Kansas City, St. Thomas avenged it with a 30-point, 73-43 win on Saturday. The 43 points allowed are a Division I era low after previously holding St. Francis Brooklyn to 48 in November.

Heading down the stretch of the regular season, 13 Tommies played at least three minutes in the win.

The Tommies jumped out to a 10-0 lead through the first two-and-a-half minutes. Grad student Parker Bjorklund poured in the first seven points before freshman Andrew Rohde hit a three before the Roos scored their bucket of the game nearly three minutes into the contest.

St. Thomas led by as many as 21 points in the first half, 32-11 with just under four minutes remaining in the first half. At that point in the game, the Roos had only converted on three field goal attempts.

Kansas City finished the first half on a 9-2 run to cut the Purple's lead to 14 points, 34-20 at intermission.

The Tommie defense held the Roos to a 6-of-27 effort from the field including an 0-for-5 showing behind the arc in the first half. Kansas City connected on 7-of-12 showing from the charity stripe.

St. Thomas connected on 11-of-27 of its attempts from the field in the first half and went 4-of-17 from behind the arc and 8-of-11 from the stripe.

Bjorklund led the Tommie offense in the first half with 11 points, while Rohde contributed nine first-half points.

At the midway point of the second half, an old-fashioned three-point play from Rohde pushed the lead to 21 points, before a traditional three-pointer from Bjorklund opened the Tommies largest lead of the game, 24 points, with 9:21 to play.

Through the first 12 minutes of the second half, St. Thomas outscored Kansas City 23-8 cruising to the 30-point win.

Nine different Tommies contributed points in the win led by Bjorklund with 20 points, his fifth 20-plus point outing of the season. Rohde (12) and Lee (11) joined him in double figures.

As a team, St. Thomas connected on 46 percent (24-of-52) of its shots from the field and 21 percent (8-of-26) from behind the arc with an 81 percent conversion rate from the charity stripe with only seven turnovers.

The Tommies welcome Western Illinois for the final home game of the season next Saturday at 7 p.m. for senior night.
